Very close from the valley where the life is wild, the rich air takes you very close to nature, Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park is the second highest peak among the hills surrounding the Kathmandu Valley. It is 2,732 m at its peak with numerous sharp ridges radiating to all sides. Situated towards the north of the Kathmandu Valley, due to its strategic location and convenience, Shivapuri was proclaimed as a watershed area supplying more than a million liters of natural spring water to the city. After Shivapuri experienced several problems concerning soil erosion as a result of deforestation, over- grazing, cultivation on steep slopes etc.; reducing the quality and quantity of the water supplied, His Majesty’s Govt. of Nepal initiated a program to protect Shivapuri and its adjoining areas as a watershed and wildlife reserve in 1975. As recently as, in mid 2002 Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve was officially given a National Park status.
The hike inside this park is perfect indeed and very new experience to all new hikers. Suitable for anyone with limited time, this hike to Shivapuri national park is a perfect getaway to experience the nature in its best for anyone. This walk provides one with pristine nature surrounded by its soothing fragrance and serenity that can be very healing from the torn and torture of the modern life. On a clear day the mountain views in the north and bird’s eye view of Kathmandu valley from the summit is extremely astonishing.
The park is very rich in its bio-diversity that spread over the summit. The floras include alder, Schima and Castanopsis at lower part and Rhododendron, Oaks and Pine trees at higher. The animals like Black Panther, Common Leopard, Wild Boar, Muntjac, Rhesus and Common Langur monkeys forms the main fauns of parks along with over 300 species of birds, which includes some endangered and rare species.

Brilliant day hike in Kathmandu

We spent the very best full day with Dawa, Pema and Traveltimes Treks! We recommend them wholeheartedly to you! Their knowledge, care and enthusiasm is just fantastic. We hiked Shivapuri Peak, 2732m, in Shivapuri NP, a challenging climb with magnificent views. Before the hike we visited a shrine of the sleeping Buddha and on the hike visited a monastery school, a water shrine to Shiva and had masala tea with the enigmatic holy Baba! The flora and fauna were beautiful and varied, with many birds and monkeys at the lower levels. We loved the enormous oak trees and the scented orange blossom plants. Dawa provided delicious sandwiches and fresh bananas that we ate overlooking the majestic views from Shivapuri. We will always remember this special hike. Thank you so much Dawa and Pema!

1 Day Trek

We did the one day trek in Shivipur Nagarjun National Park. It was an excellent day climbing up Shivapuri Peak at 2732 metres, a challenging trek but very enjoyable. Dawa and his brother were the perfect guides, looking after us every step of the way. Dawa’s mountain knowledge is extensive, I would highly recommend a trek with him.

“Shivapuri Hike “
Back in September, we the cousins had been in a Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park which is the second highest peak among the hills surrounding the Kathmandu valley. We had a great time, enjoyed a lot and Mr. Dawa Tamang, the owner of Traveltimes Treks, is a very experienced and knowledgeable person.

A day hike in Nepal
Actually I am not ready to hike and I do not have hiking kits. Mr. Dawa Lama Tamang of Travel Time trek was very kind enough to arrange a Shive Puri Hike. It was an excellent hike through the forest of Nepal. The chirping of bird, rustling of winds, meandering of the stream took us through the shades of the forest. I could not make out how I made it to the top. The taste of Nepali food provided by the baba on the way made us strong enough to climb to the top. I was proud that I could challenge Mr. Dawa and Mr Bir of Nepal. So I would say that Phenkey Adventure Travels of Bhutan could challenge Travel Times Trek and Top of the world of Nepal.
