This classic Nepal trek has 4 nights in Kathmandu and a 11 day trek around Annapurna, circling north of the Annapurna massif via the 5 416 m high Thorong La pass. The trek begins in the lush valley of the Marsyangdi River that cuts steeply between the Annapurnas to the west and the Manaslu/Himalchuli peaks to the east. Turning west into the Manang valley, a longitudinal gorge that makes a deep furrow behind the Annapurnas, you will find yourself in an increasingly Buddhist culture. The Manang Valley is inhabited by gypsy traders of Tibetan origin whose villages resemble clusters of medieval stone dwellings. The major villages of the Manang Valley are Chame, Pisang, Bragha (where there is a magnificent Buddhist monastery) and Manang.
